Best Viral News and Holiday Review in Malaysia

I found the Ritz Garden Ipoh on…we hadn't planned to stay in Ipoh, we were going to shoot through on our way from the Cameron Highlands to Penang. But I discovered there was a Sunway amusement park there, The Lost World of Tambun, and some incredible cave temples that were worth a look. It's hard to figure out what budget hotels will be good to stay at, especially when traveling alone with a child, and thank goodness, this was such a winner.

We are trying to be budget and sometimes that doesn't work out (and we end up in a resort haha), but this time it did. I found the Ipoh Ritz Gardens for only $35 a night including breakfast. It was in town, it had a pool and we didn't need to spend much time in the room so I booked it - later to discover it also has a MOVIE CINEMA and an awesome cheap in-house massage shop on level 1.
Very cool swimming pool at the Ritz Garden Hotel, Ipoh Malaysia
The room we had was fine, with queen bed, side tables, TV and a small breakfast table and chairs. The bathroom was also fine with a large shower and vanity, and towels and toiletries provided.
The best things about this hotel?
Dave the concierge!
He was so happy to see us, he settled us into our room, showed us around the hotel including the cinema and told to see him at 5pm if we wanted to watch a movie, brought us towels for the pool and was generally super helpful.
The outdoor pool.
It’s half covered by a roof and is quiet, huge and cool with water cascading down a rock wall. Perfect for cooling off in the Asia heatwave, and we needed to cool off so much. The hotel supplies towels and you can order food. In fact, you can just pick up the house phone by the pool and order anything you want.
The cinema!
We were so busy we didn't get to see a movie but wow! What hotel at this price has an awesome pool AND cinema?
It’s close to the night market and there are shops, street food and a 7-11 just a few metres away. There are potentially a few ladies of the night in the doorways on the street which did not concern me (except for possible welfare issues) so just an FYI.
The breakfast, included in the room cost, was awesome. Cereal, fruit, toast and fruit juice as well as curries and rice and noodles with condiments like fresh cucumber. I had the chicken curry and rice each day for breakfast and it was delicious.  We ate dinner here on the first night we arrived and Em’s spag bol and my curry was great.
So it’s definitely the budget - but yet not seemingly budget - place to stay when in Ipoh.
